Specializing in Asian Heritage Vegetables, Radical Family Farms is a 3-acre farm in Sebastopol, growing culturally relevant crops for the Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese and South East Asian diaspora, as well as non-Asian crops typically found at California farmers markets.

Certified organic. We farm using no to low till methods. We flail mow old crops, add 7-5-7 amendments, drop compost on the residue,
and plant directly into the bed. When we take down cover crop, we flail mow, drop compost, and tarp for 2-4 weeks to break down the residue and prepare the planting beds. To prepare stale seed beds, we use our power harrow at a very low surface setting to smooth out the bed. We do not have a tiller, and only use the harrow which stirs the soil instead of overturning the soil to maintain the soil structure and organic matter. Inthe farm we covercrop the entire 1.5 acre growing space to protect from erosion during the rains and give back to the soil. Our winter squash and longer brassicas are straw mulched to minimize evaporation and maintain soil moisture. We also use plastic mulches to keep the soil covered.
